Gentlemen,
This is a half sovereign which I acquired at the price of the gold.
The coin correspond as size and weight and is really gold.
It looks like to be for a while in circulation.
At the beginning of the 20-th century there were imitations in circulation which was minted in Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, etc.
They were in circulation and even some of the producers stamped their sign. At that time it was important only that this is 4 grams of 22 carat gold.
I have seen few such marked imitations but never an imitations with such mark. Please have a look in front of the head of King George V.
Does someone know where this fake coin could be minted and when?
I believe it is minted in the early 20-ties of the previous century.
I do not think that it could be produced in 70-ties or 80-thies with the idea to cheat with the numismatic value. In 1913 there were minted over 24 Mio sovereigns. They are sold at the price of gold. Also a cheater will not put a mark.
Thanks in advance.
